CHRIS & THE BAND

Very few bands can boast that their songs are so good that not only do complete strangers offer to join their band having heard a set, but that they're debut album has been recorded completely free of charge, in a studio worth tens of thousands of pounds, purely because the owner of the studio was so impressed with them.

This is a boast that The Chris MacAlister Band can claim. With a front man that has moved through 13 different homes across 3 countries, Chris MacAlister's colourful upbringing has provided much of the inspiration for his back catalogue of over 230 songs; written over 12 years. Now aged 28, and holding on to home number 13 in Chester, Chris has become a highly accomplished songwriter and the band that he fronts has pillaged the extensive archive of his acoustically arranged songs and developed them into the anthemic compositions that this electro-acoustic indie-pop band now present.

Despite Chris's long writing career the development of the band, from what had originally been a solo project, was a relatively recent development. By the summer of 2007 Chris had managed to attract a full band through his recording activities and hard core attendance of open mic nights. The line up of John Paul Cumberlidge (Keyboards and backing vocals), Bod (Drums) and Gaz Knight (Bass) have been rallied from all corners of the North West, from Wrexham to Liverpool.

Chris allowed the band to take a large stake in deciding which of his songs should be developed and added to the set list. Once all of the band members had added their own individual touches to the songs the strongest tracks were laid down at Bods and then mixed and mastered at Simon Grainger's DogHouse Studios.

The band's involvement in the development and selection of the songs that they currently perform has also helped create their individual sound. With Chris' songs having been written over such a long period of time the influences behind his songs have changed almost on a monthly basis. Some of the most enduring influences have come from David Bowie, Bjork and KT Tunstall although countless others have also left their mark along their way.

Through the years Chris has been blessed to have had so many people offering so much support for little in return and in a similar vein the debut album "E-mails and Killer Wails" will be released as a on-line download.
